In the PRBB Open Day, the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park opens its doors to the general public, with scientists and other staff from the centers linked to the PRBB organizing activities such as guided tours, scientific talks, workshops and experiments, to bring science to the general public. LCATM has partnered throughout the years with top researchers from the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (CSIC-UPF) to showcase their research in activities such as “Discover the routes of human populations”, an interactive mini-conference by young researchers explaining concepts of evolutionary biology such as genomic variability, the founder effect, bottlenecks, or adaptations to the environment; a stand showcasing the project “Melanogaster: Catch the Fly!” (#MelanogasterCTF) centered in crowd sampling citizen science for the research of genomic adaptation of the environment. LCATM has designed and organized the science outreach activities of its partner research groups in the PRBB Open Day, including bringing high school students from the rural communities where #MelanogasterCTF is carried out as citizen science ambassadors.
